I spent the weekend having a wonderful time down in London at Gemma's. I drove down which was a novelty, its been a long time since I last drove on the M25 and it was the furthest I've ever taken this car. The roads were pleasantly quiet which meant I got a good chance to test the car out... I'm not convinced that the reported top speeds are accurate - if they are then mine is breaking the mould :)
The weekend was spent mainly watching films. I have finally seen the 'Back to the Future' trilogy. Yes, I'd managed to get to my ripe old age without seeing any of them. I'm so so glad that I've seen them now, and just wish that I'd been watching them for years.
We all loved 'The Unicorn and the Wasp'. I thought it was very funny, and well written - it really felt like the step up from 'The Shakespeare Code'. I also really liked how it was woven around Agatha Christie's disappearance, felt quite clever to me.
Today back at work has felt a little like a rude awakening. I've felt really irritated by the smallest things today, so have ended up trying to be as invisible as possible. I think the fact I got missed on the tea run almost every time may have contributed to my irritation... just an inkling though.
My car has been named Billy. It was suggested on the day of purchase by my mom, but I wasn't quite sure. It pretty much fits though, it's another old name to go with the dearly departed Jack.
In a pleasant coincidence, since buying the car I've spent many hours watching back to back episodes of 'House' (for a very important knitting reason I can't mention right now) and it has really reminded me how much I loved Jesse Spencer. Today however I reached a sad point when I watched the last episode of season 1. This is sad for two reasons, firstly because 'House' is over, and secondly because I have no tv dvds to watch now whilst engaging in the currently unmentionable knitting.
I spent some of this afternoon with my grandparents. My grandad spent hours at minor injuries with my mom yesterday after he split his scalp open on the corner of his at the time open (raised) garage door. Now cleaned and dressed it's only fairly minor lacerations thanks to the cloth cap he was wearing at the time. This means I'm fully entitled to laugh and take the mickey - he's as short as I am so the skill involved in hitting his head is high!
And finally, my biggest news of the last couple of days. I went to New Road yesterday to watch a cricket match in aid of charity. The St Richard's All Stars were entertaining Emmerdale. Now whilst the Emmerdale turn out was slightly disappointing (filming crisis), the cricket itself was fairly amusing and a pleasant day out. What was really exciting was arriving and meeting the King of Spain himself, Ashley Giles. For those of you who are a little rusty with your sports you can find him here.
I went to the library yesterday. I came back with a huge bruise on my foot (you'd think I'd learn about dropping books on my foot after last time) and a bag full of books. Incidentally anyone who got the free 'summer' bag from New Woman a few months back - just the right size for a dozen books! Beats an old carrier after all.
Last night I started reading 'Working Wonders' by Jenny Colgan. I know a lot of people aren't that fussed by her books, but I really enjoy them. They're very light and funny, and this one is no exception. I think though I'm finding it funnier because of where its set. The main story follows a team trying to win City of Culture status for their city... Coventry! Which is funny in itself but to me funnier still as my opinion of Coventry has been marred by my allegiance to Birmingham on a city level, and Villa on a footballing level. Add to this the fact that they're competing with Slough (having just spent the last 5 years in Reading) and some genuinely amusing moments and I spent a couple of hours with my hand stuffed in my mouth to stop me laughing out loud and waking my parents!
I feel like I should be doing something today, but I'm not inspired as yet. I have to spend some time working on a project that must remain unnamed (its a surprise for someone) and I have to spend some time with my head in a textbook. The problem is that now I have a car I just want to go places!
EDIT: This is hilarious!!
... you can't find the software CD anywhere. I have a load of photos on my mom's digital camera that I want to upload, but the disk is nowhere to be seen. The home PC is about to be rebuilt so I thought I'd use my laptop (which also has the modem attached to it as I speak). So the long and short is no piccy's for the short term future.
In big news - I HAVE A CAR!!!!!! I went and saw the fit salesman again and collected my new transport. He's very lovely, and very nameless. Richard keeps laughing at me, I don't feel I've quite gotten a feel for his personality yet. My dad keeps suggesting names starting with K but so far nothing's inspiring me. If anyone wants to makes suggestions I'm open to ideas, useful info about him includes that he's blue (like poster paint) and his licence plate begins VK.
I had a pile of interesting stuff to write about, but I can't remember any of it. My days are a mix of reading speechy books and running errands - not very inspiring.
What I did want to record was my excitement at hearing that the second episode of the new series of Doctor Who would feature William Shakespeare played by no other than Dean Lennox Kelly. Up until recently I didn't have much of an opinion of DLK, I was never drawn to Shameless. Then he was in Socceraid and I became slightly more interested, and by the end of Sorted I decided he was alright really. He will of course be completely overshadowed by David Tennant, and the glasses, but I'm sure he'll put up a good show :)
I go on holiday tomorrow. I'm going to spend a week in Lyme Regis with my parents. The place looks lovely (they went before they were married but I've never been), I don't think the weather will oblige though. Never mind, the pile of books I've packed next to my DS Lite means I won't be getting bored soon (and I loaded up a load of new podcasts to listen to).
I haven't blogged anywhere near as much as I intended to over the last couple of days. A combination of loads of storms (like I'm going to risk my laptop in them) and family 'issues' mean I've barely seen a computer. I'm gutted I missed out on the nerd QotD, though I think my list would have been a little more extensive than I'd have been willing to share.
The most exciting news I have is that I bought a car today! After the sad demise of 'Jack' I've been carless for months. Today I testdrove and agreed to buy a Ford Ka from our local friendly dealership (is it wrong to find a car salesman fit? looking forward to collection anyway!) They've got a couple of things to do (MOT etc) so I'm collecting it on the 4th. I can not explain the joy power steering has already brought me!
