I spent the weekend having a wonderful time down in London at Gemma's. I drove down which was a novelty, its been a long time since I last drove on the M25 and it was the furthest I've ever taken this car. The roads were pleasantly quiet which meant I got a good chance to test the car out... I'm not convinced that the reported top speeds are accurate - if they are then mine is breaking the mould :)
The weekend was spent mainly watching films. I have finally seen the 'Back to the Future' trilogy. Yes, I'd managed to get to my ripe old age without seeing any of them. I'm so so glad that I've seen them now, and just wish that I'd been watching them for years.
We all loved 'The Unicorn and the Wasp'. I thought it was very funny, and well written - it really felt like the step up from 'The Shakespeare Code'. I also really liked how it was woven around Agatha Christie's disappearance, felt quite clever to me.
Today back at work has felt a little like a rude awakening. I've felt really irritated by the smallest things today, so have ended up trying to be as invisible as possible. I think the fact I got missed on the tea run almost every time may have contributed to my irritation... just an inkling though.
This is going to be a 'Ronseal' post - I can't be bothered to think of an imaginative title, so it's going to do exactly what it says.
I went to the cinema last night. Our local BBC radio station runs a thing called 'Cinema Club' on its breakfast show. They announce on a Tuesday the film for this week, you ring in and say you want to go, and then if your name comes out of the hat you get to go on Thursday evening for free. The only catch is they get you to give a brief review at the end but its seriously non-taxing. I went two weeks ago to see 'Trust The Man' and had to turn my ticket down last week for 'Children of Men'. Last night it was the turn of 'Devil Wears Prada' and I really enjoyed it. I hadn't gotten around to reading the book and then when they announced that they were making a film of it I decided to wait. I tend to prefer seeing the film before I read the book - that way I'm rarely disappointed. The film was thoroughly enjoybale, and I thought Meryl Streep showed that grey hair and a lined face don't mean twin sets and tweed. Adrian Grenier was pretty fit too :-D Not sure what next week's film will be, but I managed to persuade the woman who runs it that when 'Happy Feet' is released that we can see that!
I've spent the last day or so visiting people. I was deemed to be sufficiently better to risk seeing my grandparents (no one's had their flu jabs yet) and so I've seen all three of them and my mom's best friend, Liz. I get on well with Liz and she's the Inclusion Officer for the county so she has been really interested in my course and my job hunting. She works closely with one of my team leaders, and says she's lovely - I just can't wait to get started.
My cousin's fiance gave birth to a baby girl last Friday. She's called Hannah and weighed 6 pounds 2 1/2 ounces. I'm partway through knitting a blanket for her (having only decided to do so last Thursday and being impeded by my nasty cold). I've got this horrible feeling she's going to make an appearance at our house sometime this weekend - I don't think I've got a hope of getting it finished in time. I don't know yet whether they will be having her christened, and that'd probably be ages away in any case. I guess I need to just hope that they wait another few days before they come to visit.
